Hospitality and Travel Expense Visualizer Prototype
We've just received some prototype screenshots of our Travel and Hospitality Expense Visualizer from Datalicious. While there are several modes and controls still to be added, it's already looking highly useful. Click on the image below for a larger version.
Datalicious is a software company that specializes in creating visualization tools to unlock the value of large data sets.

That looks good. Are you going to add other markers as well to the graphs?
Yes, there are a lot more features going in into this visualization, including indicating time (year and quarters) and marking major events (elections, etc).
great stuff. I bet some senior government officials would love to have such a tool. Would be nice to make a case study: how much it costed, how it was built, etc, and compare it with similar govt initiatives.
Wow, this is a GREAT idea and the above visualizations & filtering really look good!
I'm wondering how/if your visualization takes into consideration the following two things:
A) Number of people traveling (eg. Fisheries has more than 10,000 full time employees while the National Farm Products Council has just 15) [ref: http://www.psagency-agencefp.gc.ca/pas-srp/report-rapport_e.asp?cat=a ]
B) The department's type of business. For example, about 7% of the Transportation Safety Board's budget goes towards transportation & communication since it's their job to travel around Canada and investigate accidents whereas Status of Women is more of a policy shop and have declared they will spend about 1% of their 2008-09 budget on travel and communication. We're adding support for the department size (A). It's a good idea to take into account the announced part of budget dedicated to transportation and communication (B), but I don't think we have the data yet. Thanks for the suggestions, we'll definitely try to include them :)
